NEC's Best Bets: 11/11/21

Another light slate tonight, with just two NEC games on the docket (remember, games against D-1 games do not exist as far as I'm concerned). Last night I took Seton Hall -25.5 over FDU and won easily; Big East teams have covered big lines against NEC teams in three games so far. Which is why I'm staying far away from Providence -15.5 against Sacred Heart tonight; the Pios looked really good in their season-opening OT win at La Salle on Tuesday, and I'm not quite sure what to make of the Friars yet (also, I'm in CT so I can't actually bet Sacred Heart, but that's not the point).

A reminder; this is not gambling or financial advice, and I'm not suggesting anyone copy me. These are my bets, and my bets only.

Season Record: 1-1.

Today's bet: Merrimack at NJIT (+2.5)

The Warriors are road favorites tonight, which is a first for an NEC team this season. Now look, I'm high on Merrimack; I picked them 4th in my NEC Preview, and really do think they have a shot at a regular season title. However, Bart Torvik is even more bullish than I am; his projection system has them tops in the NEC, and #164 in the country! Yet, that same system has Merrimack as just a 1-point favorite in this one (which matches Kenpom).

I wrote about this game in my Forecaster, but a quick recap; NJIT lost its two best players off last season's team to the Transfer Portal, but does return a bevy of experienced players who were injured last season. Yes, they were picked to finish near the bottom of the America East in their first season since leaving the Atlantic Sun Conference. But they're home, and are playing in front of their fans for the first time.

Merrimack beat up on Emerson College on Tuesday, and tonight is their first D1 test of the season. While I'll never put much stock on a non-D1 blowout, there was some cause for concern, mainly that the Warriors shot just 7 of 25 from three.

This should be a one-possession game, and while I think Merrimack has a great chance to win this game, I'll take the points.

Note: I got NJIT +3.5 over at Fanduel this morning, but the spread has since come down as of this writing.
